Baby Teeth: The Importance Of Children's Dentistry

As a young mother, I was reasonably ignorant when raising my firstborn. My biggest regret is that I didn't help her take better care of her teeth. Like many people, I didn't realise the importance of baby teeth, resulting in long-term dental problems. Recently, my daughter got married and some of my tears were for the beautiful, glistening smile she presented to the cameras. Ever since I realised the dental damage I had caused, I had been saving for my daughter to have cosmetic dentistry. The results are remarkable. During the course of this journey, I have learnt a lot about caring for children's teeth and corrective procedures that can be undertaken when issues arise. I am sure many of you would be interested in the latest knowledge and techniques that are available to prevent and repair dental complications. I'm Margret Devlin - thanks for visiting.

Reasons You Should Choose Dental Implants for Tooth Replacement

There are a myriad of reasons why you may require tooth replacement. The most common cause is due to trauma that will either knock your entire tooth out or cause a significant break in it that would need a dentist to extract it. However, poor diet, disease and more may also cause tooth loss. The traditional methods of tooth replacement include dentures and dental bridges. With advancements in the dental industry though, you will find more and more dentists are offering their patients dental implants as method of tooth replacement. Here are some of the reasons why you should opt for this treatment option rather than choose the traditional methods.

Dental implants look natural

When you decide you want to have tooth replacement, chances are you do so to completely camouflage the fact that you lost your tooth in the first place. The older methods of tooth replacement, such as dentures and bridges, may appear similar to your natural teeth, but can be spotted as fake if someone took a closer look at them. You will not have to worry about this when you opt for dental implants. For one, these tooth prosthetics are anchored right into your jawbone. This makes them as sturdy and natural-looking as your regular teeth. As your gum gradually grows over it, you will regain full functionality of your tooth without having to change your diet or eating habits.

Dental implants are permanent

When it comes to tooth replacement options, by far dental implants are the longest lasting option that you could choose. Since the titanium root is implanted directly into your jaw, you do not have to worry about it coming loose. This is unlike dentures, which are temporary and have to be taken out on a daily basis. Dental bridges may be long lasting, but they could need to be replaced after some time if the bridgework starts getting loose. Therefore, if you were looking for a long-term solution without much maintenance needed, dental implants would be your best bet.

Dental implants do not affect your adjacent teeth

The integrity of the teeth adjacent to your gap can be compromised with other tooth replacement options. For instance if you opt for a dental bridge, the dentist will have to use the adjacent teeth to anchor the prosthetic tooth and this requires some drilling and shaping. The same applies with partial dentures that will also have to be supported by the adjacent teeth. Since dental implants are installed directly into your jawbone, you do not have to worry about any of you other teeth being affected.
