Baby Teeth: The Importance Of Children's Dentistry

As a young mother, I was reasonably ignorant when raising my firstborn. My biggest regret is that I didn't help her take better care of her teeth. Like many people, I didn't realise the importance of baby teeth, resulting in long-term dental problems. Recently, my daughter got married and some of my tears were for the beautiful, glistening smile she presented to the cameras. Ever since I realised the dental damage I had caused, I had been saving for my daughter to have cosmetic dentistry. The results are remarkable. During the course of this journey, I have learnt a lot about caring for children's teeth and corrective procedures that can be undertaken when issues arise. I am sure many of you would be interested in the latest knowledge and techniques that are available to prevent and repair dental complications. I'm Margret Devlin - thanks for visiting.

Straighten Your Teeth Without Compromising the Professionalism of Your Smile: Four Tips

Dentist Blog

If you work in a professional environment, you likely know that your teeth can affect your success. Studies indicate that people with white teeth are more likely to get job offers with higher salaries than people with coloured teeth, while other research shows the importance of being confident about your smile when interviewing for a job. Unfortunately, the very work of improving your smile can be a distraction from the beauty of your teeth.

Namely, if you have traditional metal braces, it may make your smile look less professional, which can affect you whether you are interviewing for a new job or trying to land a professional client. Curious about other options? Take a look:

1. Invisible braces

So-called invisible braces feature ceramic braces that blend into your teeth. These braces are visible to someone standing next to you, but they typically are not noticeable across the room. As a result, they are a relatively discreet option for someone working in a professional environment.

2. Lingual braces

Lingual braces, sometimes also called invisible braces, don't sit on the front of your teeth. Rather, they are attached to the back of your teeth. This can be a bit more uncomfortable than traditional braces, especially right after tightening.

Additionally, lingual braces can be more expensive than other orthodontic options. However, they are very discreet and effective. Whether you are directly in front of someone, smiling from across a busy conference room or having a close-up during a videoconference, no one can see these braces. That makes it easy to maintain the professional vibe you are trying to create.

3. Retainer

In lieu of having permanent orthodontics on your teeth, you may want to talk with an orthodontist about a retainer. A retainer also helps to shift your teeth, but unlike braces, they don't need to be in your mouth all the time. Instead, you pop in your retainer when you are sleeping or during the evening when you are not at work. That lets you keep your professional work smile during the day while improving it at night.

4. Front teeth veneers

Working with an orthodontist is not necessarily the only way to improve your smile. A cosmetic dentist can also help you put on front teeth veneers. These veneers cover cracked or crooked teeth, making your smile look perfect. Unlike orthodontic methods, veneers can also help to make your teeth look whiter.

Contact an orthodontist for more information on your options.
