Baby Teeth: The Importance Of Children's Dentistry

As a young mother, I was reasonably ignorant when raising my firstborn. My biggest regret is that I didn't help her take better care of her teeth. Like many people, I didn't realise the importance of baby teeth, resulting in long-term dental problems. Recently, my daughter got married and some of my tears were for the beautiful, glistening smile she presented to the cameras. Ever since I realised the dental damage I had caused, I had been saving for my daughter to have cosmetic dentistry. The results are remarkable. During the course of this journey, I have learnt a lot about caring for children's teeth and corrective procedures that can be undertaken when issues arise. I am sure many of you would be interested in the latest knowledge and techniques that are available to prevent and repair dental complications. I'm Margret Devlin - thanks for visiting.

Are Same Day Crowns Great Just Like Traditional Crowns?

Dentist Blog

Dental crowns are essential tools in a dental care arsenal, used by dentists to keep the teeth in a tip-top shape. The dentist fits a tooth-shaped cap over the teeth for several reasons, such as strengthening a weak tooth, hold a cracked tooth's pieces together, support a tooth that has a substantial filing, for tooth whitening, reinstate the appearance of the misshapen tooth, and more.

Once a general dentistry professional has decided that same day crowns is the best option for you, the next thing that needs to be done is to find the right one for your situation.

Permanent crowns

All-ceramic or all-porcelain same day crowns are a suitable choice, particularly for people who are allergic to metal. These dental crowns are easily matched to the existing teeth colour to offer a natural look that can blend seamlessly with the other teeth.

Metal crowns (made using gold alloy, chromium, palladium or nickel) are the most long-lasting choice. They cannot chip or break; they can withstand biting and chewing better than any other types. The only major disadvantage you will face with these crowns is the colour. Metal crowns cannot blend with your natural teeth like veneered, ceramic and porcelain crowns, but they are an excellent option for your back teeth.

Porcelain metal crowns are also popular since they can be matched with the teeth colour. They offer strength for bridges including other dental appliances and are durable. However, this crown wears on adjacent teeth.

Temporary Crowns

The all-resin crowns provide an affordable option to typical porcelain or ceramic crowns. But, the resin will wear down over time and can fracture; this is the reason it's only used as a temporary crown.

Another temporary option is stainless steel crowns, often used to protect a tooth as you wait for the permanent crown to be made. These crowns are prefabricated and can be used even by kids to protect teeth from decaying. This reduces the frequencies of getting dental cleanings.

Same day crowns provide convenience and quality

In the past, getting dental crowns wasn't easy. The dentist has to take a mould of your damaged tooth. That mould would be sent to a dental lab to be used to make your customised crown. You would then need to visit the dentist after 2-3 weeks so that the new crown can be cemented. However, dentists today have various technologically advanced options; they can use them to provide superior products and service in less time.

Do not be scared if you realise you require same day crowns. Your dentist should be able to get you the best solution for your problem.
