Baby Teeth: The Importance Of Children's Dentistry

As a young mother, I was reasonably ignorant when raising my firstborn. My biggest regret is that I didn't help her take better care of her teeth. Like many people, I didn't realise the importance of baby teeth, resulting in long-term dental problems. Recently, my daughter got married and some of my tears were for the beautiful, glistening smile she presented to the cameras. Ever since I realised the dental damage I had caused, I had been saving for my daughter to have cosmetic dentistry. The results are remarkable. During the course of this journey, I have learnt a lot about caring for children's teeth and corrective procedures that can be undertaken when issues arise. I am sure many of you would be interested in the latest knowledge and techniques that are available to prevent and repair dental complications. I'm Margret Devlin - thanks for visiting.

3 Reasons to Use Emergency Dental Services

For most dental problems, the best course of action is to make an appointment with your regular dentist. However, there are some situations in which you need to see a dentist right away. Here are a few reasons to visit an emergency dental clinic to get immediate help while your regular dental office is closed.

1. Knocked-Out or Broken Tooth

Whether you have had a fall, a sporting accident or have broken a tooth simply by biting into a hard piece of food, it is important to see a dentist as soon as possible for a broken or knocked-out tooth. If you still have the broken pieces of tooth, the dentist might be able to reseal and repair them.

To give yourself the best chance of tooth restoration, place all pieces of the tooth in a cup or bottle of milk. If you do not have milk on hand, you can try to cover the tooth with saliva. If you cannot produce enough saliva to cover the tooth, use water. The important thing is to keep the tooth moist to increase the chance of survival of the root.

Bring the tooth with you to the emergency dental clinic. Try to touch it as little as possible with your fingers. If you must handle the tooth, pick it up by the crown rather than the root.

2. Oral Infection

If you think you might have an infection in your mouth, it is important to seek dental treatment as soon as possible. Infections can spread from the mouth into the bloodstream, with serious consequences for your overall health.

For many people, the most obvious sign of infection is pain that gets rapidly worse. Other common symptoms include redness and swelling. Sometimes, there is also a bad-tasting discharge, called pus, coming from the site of the infection. If you have these symptoms, contact an emergency dental service for help.

3. Severe Pain

Even if you do not know what condition is causing your dental pain, you should never suffer through pain that is intolerably bad. If you have pain so bad that common medications do not help, then you should contact an emergency dental clinic or try to get an emergency appointment with your regular dentist. Pain is often a sign of infection or severe decay, both of which need to be treated as soon as possible to prevent them the problems from getting worse.
